Generation Science is a touring programme of interactive science shows and workshops that visits primary schools across Scotland
February–June 2025
Audience: Primary School Pupils
Estimated Reach: 18,000
Delivered by a highly trained travelling team of science communicators, Generation Science brings science to life in a fun and high-energy environment. Using a mix of theatre, live demonstrations, audience participation and hands-on experiments every pupil is involved, including those who don’t typically engage with traditional in-classroom STEM education.
This year’s tour is comprised of 5 different topics, each directly linked to learning outcomes in the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence. We support teachers by enhancing what pupils are covering in the classroom and providing resources to boost teacher confidence in delivering STEM education. We regularly review our portfolio of activities and create new, relevant content to maintain our place as one of Scotland’s leading STEM education providers.
Some of my pupils are totally disengaged with school work, therefore this kind of workshop was perfect for thos children. We have lots of 'best day ever!' comments for the rest of the day

The Impact
Generation Science is designed to spark interest and raise attainment in STEM subjects for primary school pupils across Scotland. As a nationwide programme, the aim is to address educational inequality across the country and ensure no child is left behind.
Generation Science has been proven to build pupils’ science capital – the sum total of all science-related knowledge, attitudes and experiences an individual builds up through their lives – with 100% of teachers surveyed agreeing that the performance brought STEM alive for pupils and 97% agreeing that the experience encouraged pupils to want to explore the topic further.
Making Science Accessible
The unique geography of Scotland poses an extra challenge for children living in remote areas of the country, with rural schools facing low teacher numbers, mixed aged and ability classes and less funding for tools and equipment. With Generation Science, no matter where the school is based, they receive the same experience – in 2024 nearly a third of the tour visiting schools in remote or rural areas.
Thanks to our supporters we deliver almost half the Generation Science tour for free, with all other state schools offered a heavily subsidised visit to ensure cost isn’t a barrier. We use the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD) to ensure we are reaching the pupils most in need.
