Professor Emily Sena is a scientist at the University of Edinburgh with a passion for making sure that scientific research actually works and works for everyone. Her focus is on improving the quality and reliability of medical research, particularly the kinds of studies carried out in laboratories that are intended to one day help treat human diseases.

Emily is also a leading voice in making science more open, honest, and accountable. She was the founding Editor-in-Chief of BMJ Open Science, a journal dedicated to transparent and trustworthy research, and she is deeply committed to ensuring that the scientific community holds itself to the highest possible standards. Beyond the lab, she is a passionate advocate for equality and inclusion, having helped build and lead initiatives at the University of Edinburgh that champion racial equity across academia.

Craig Sterling is Co-Founder and CEO of MarinaTex, a materials science company developing plastic-free, high-performance natural polymer materials derived from marine biowaste, combining scientific innovation with real-world commercial application. His career spans decades of commercialising materials science and life sciences businesses, helping companies attract investment, build teams, and bring new technologies to market. He joins the Edinburgh Science board with a strong belief in science as a driver of both economic and environmental progress, and that some of the most exciting solutions emerge at the intersection of nature and industry.
