We proudly marked the 10th anniversary of Careers Hive
In 2025, we celebrated a decade dedicated to inspiring and engaging school pupils from across Scotland with the diverse opportunities a STEM career can offer.
Careers Hive was launched in 2016 to offer a fresh, innovative approach to STEM careers education. Drawing on our experience engaging young people in science and technology, and responding to the need for improved careers education highlighted in the Scottish Government’s Education Working for All! report (2014), Edinburgh Science created a unique experience that differs from traditional careers events. The programme was designed to provide immersive, hands-on experiences and meaningful interactions with STEM professionals.
Since its launch Careers Hive has fostered strong and enduring partnerships with secondary schools nationwide, introduced innovative new activities, and adapted to evolving challenges, including economic pressures and the global pandemic. Thanks to the generous support of our funders, over 21,500 young people have benefited from our distinctive vision: a world where STEM careers are accessible, appealing, and engaging for all.
Careers Hive 2025
Careers Hive took place at the National Museum of Scotland between 27–30 October 2025, empowering 1,950 P7-S3 students to explore diverse career pathways across science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Completely free to attend, Careers Hive offers young people the chance to explore the vast opportunities that STEM can offer and where it might fit in their future careers – and it wouldn’t be possible without the generous support of our partners and funders!
Our Impact: Reaching New Heights
Careers Hive 2025 made a powerful impact, both onsite and online. Student feedback showed remarkable results:
- 80% of pupils agreed they now better understand the types of jobs in STEM
- 54% of pupils agreed that they are more interested in working in STEM related jobs or industries
- 80% of pupils agreed they could have a career in STEM if they wanted to
