Experience a living symphony of our planet's air – where global pollution data becomes sound, colour, and motion.
What if you could hear the air you breathe? Sphaerosymphony: The Music of the Air turns global air quality data into a living performance – a blend of science, art, and generative sound. Using live air quality readings from cities worldwide, an interactive sphere visualises atmospheric patterns in real time, accompanied by a responsive generative soundscape.
Audiences will be able to compare the “sound of the air” in Edinburgh with other global cities, take part in live polls, and explore data-driven artworks through interactive displays and VR headsets. Presented by creative technologist David Oxley and Associate Professor Piera Morlacchi, Head of the Entrepreneurship & Innovation Group in the Business School at the University of Edinburgh, Sphaerosymphony reveals how global data can be experienced through art and sound, helping us sense our shared environment in new ways.
